The Great Pyramid Speaks - The following is a result of my research into the dramatic climate changes that occurred around 10,500 B.C., the Younger Dryas event. The Great Pyramid reveals that this abrupt climate change was likely due to meteor impact. This information is relevant to help us understand the climate change of today. Some scientists have argued that dramatic climate change is a natural occurrence and that therefore the current global warming is not a Man Made problem. To me, there is nothing natural about being impacted by 10-mile wide meteors. I have included this article in hopes of awakening a sense of urgency in people. As my book shows, Mankind is no match for Mother Nature. We must error on the safe side.
Global Warming - Science is now in general agreement that Global Warming is occurring, caused mainly by the release of Carbon (CO2) into the atmosphere by Mankind's use of fossil fuels. The theory goes like this, the more CO2 in the atmosphere, the hotter the planet. Excluding self serving opinions and independently looking at scientifically based information from ice core samples, some of which record climate conditions going back one million years, we more easily will understand the relationships between CO2 release and temperature change. These Ice Core Samples are a record (not an opinion) of what has happened in the past and can greatly assist us in predicting the future.
Solar Blanket - To help you understand the damage caused by CO2 release, consider this. CO2 that is released will rise into our upper atmosphere forming a thermal barrier which then restricts the dispensation of heat from this planet and intern reflects this heat back down similar to the solar blanket on your pool. The more of this carbon blanket we create, the less heat can escape our atmosphere. This causes Global Warming. So we must understand, the less CO2 we create, the more chance we have of correcting this problem. Over the last 100 years or so the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere has dramatically increased and each year our CO2 output is greater than the year before. Once in our atmosphere it takes a very long time for the Earth to naturally dissipate this CO2 gas. The big question is "To what extent is this Planet going to warm?"
Antarctic Ice Core Data - The information you will find on the following graph was published in the highly respected scientific journal entitled Nature. The Antarctic Ice Cores contain a record of the Earth's climate going far back into the past. This graph accurately details what level of CO2 was in the atmosphere at any given time and what the corresponding Earth Temperature was. Ice cores can be read like the rings of a tree, each ring is telling the climate story of the year it was formed. The miles thick ice fields of the Antarctica, from which the ice core samples used in this graph have been extracted, hold historical evidence of Earth's climate going back almost half a million years. The first thing you notice in the following graph is that CO2 level and Earth Temperature has fluctuated in the past. Importantly, whenever there has been a CO2 spike, there has always been a corresponding temperature rise.
Examine Carefully the Previous Graph - You will see that the spikes of 12,000 years ago left CO2 levels and Earth temperature near their highest levels recorded. They have remained high ever since. A very prudent and alarming fact to me is that Mankind has created, in only the past 100 years, a new CO2 spike on top of the record spike 12,000 years ago. As a result, current CO2 levels greatly exceed any previous level seen in the last million years. Most importantly, what this graph shows is that the Earth Temperature spike corresponding to the CO2 spike of the last 100 years has yet to occur. Earth Temperature has just begun to try and catch up. It seems highly likely that this Planet is about to experience an unstoppable and dramatic temperature increase. As this is a delayed reaction event, we must realize that only immediate action may prevent future catastrophe.
We Must Not Ignore the Warnings - The signs of this are increasingly becoming apparent worldwide but are most evident in the Polar Regions. This summer (2007) the North Pole sea ice melted at an astonishing rate. Science had predicted that as a result of global warming this sea ice might melt by the time of 2050. To see this happen so soon has many leading scientists truly alarmed. Time has run out and we truly may be at a tipping point. The IEA (International Energy Agency) has stated 'The primary scarcity facing this planet is not of natural resources nor money, but time'. Louis Fortier, scientific director of ArcticNet says 'The frightening models we didn't even dare to talk about before are now proving to be true'. The IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) states 'Immediate action is needed to be able to prevent the most severe impacts'. IPCC co-author Andrew Weaver from the University of Victoria says 'We need huge cuts in emissions'. Ken Demmann, senior scientist with the federal department of Fisheries and Oceans, says 'We have to deal with it intelligently and pretty bloody soon'.
Action Speaks Louder then Words - Many governments around the world continue to ignore warnings from scientists that Global Warming is real and that immediate action is necessary. Opinion pole after opinion pole show that the vast majority want governments to tackle this problem and that they are willing to sacrifice in order to succeed. The technology to begin solving this problem is readily available. More so, any country that invests in research and development of new clean technology will for obvious reasons benefit greatly in the future. Even if the entire world stopped burning fossil fuels today, the amount of CO2 currently in the atmosphere most likely ensures a dramatic warming of this planet and it is very possible that this Planet is at a tipping point. Yet ever year our CO2 output rises because many governments resist making meaningful changes. Our governments are representation of their people. It seems odd to me that we as a united people cannot and have not been able to change some governments thinking. It leaves the question "Just who do these governments represent?". There is no doubt we must make dramatic global changes. We therefore must force our governments to listen to the overwhelming demand from their people and seriously address this problem.
